Tiger 955i Valve clearance check/adjustment

Hi, has anyone here checked their valve clearances? the Haynes Manual says she must be at TDC and to check the clearance with the cam lobe facing upwards. But at TDC the lobes point away from each other (intake away from exhast, i.e. both pointing outwards) and if you then turn the wheel to get the lobe pointing upwards (be it the intake or the exhaust) you are past (just before) TDC?
