Race Dog
A question recently came up on another forum about this, and I thought it might add some value here too.
I have been witness (on more than one occasion) to broken / damaged subframes due to the shaking / vibration of the top box when used in rough off-road applications. Mine carries a bit of mass most of the time, things like tools, tubes and stuff.
What I have learnt is that you need to "strengthen" the rear end of the bike by installing pannier frames, even if you are not going to use the panniers. They strengthen the rear end of the subframe substantially, and also provide protection to the side covers and pipes in the event of a crash. Tying the top box down with a sling over the top, in addition to the locking clip, completely stops the "bouncing". It really works, tried and tested.
Just thought I'd share this bit of useless info.....![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
