Travelling africa by myself

Hey Folks,

New to this forum, so i extend greetings to all!

I plan to arrive in Cape Town mid Novemeber, source a bike and see how far i can get around southern africa in 3/4 months.(time is dependant on how long my savings will last)

Part of me also has a sneaking ambition to make it home to Dublin on the bike....but we'll see what happens and if the will power is there.

Anyway, if anyone had contact details of suitable second hand bike dealers/mechanics in Cape town please send them my way.

Any information on Carnets would be appreciated too (is one really necessary? i've read soooooo much conflicting info on this. ive heard only sudan, kenya and egypt?)
