Trax panniers on 1150 advice needed

I'm in the process of buying a luggage system for the pig.
I'm either going for a ATG soft bags system from Chris @ Flying Brick, but big prob for me is the inability to lock.

So: found a deal on a Trax 45l system with brackets for a Yamaha 660 Tenere.
1) is it possible to modify the Tenere brackets to fit the 1150? I guess anything is possible, but is there a good reason why NOT to do this?
2) The boxes are both 45l left and right. I like the size, but the 1150 exhaust might be in the way of the left pannier. Is there a way around this? Anyone have 45L on the left and is it too wide? How about lowering the exhaust?
