I've been running an Anakee at the back (literally now dead) - but for my commute I might just put another one on, they really are IMO the best road-biased tyre you get.  I've never had one on the front, but I'm sure same would apply.

However, since the demise of the D606 in SA, a suitable replacement needs to be found.

I had a Mitas E-07 on the front until quite recently.  Now, this was my personal experience with this particular tyre - I understand lots and lots of okes are tremendously happy with theirs, and I was too - relatively good grip off-road, and really excellent on, found it to deliver relatively good mileage (although nothing close to Anakee territory), but good value for money.  HOWEVER - I was mucking about in a veld here at the office, and nicked a rock with the sidewall, which promptly tore a big gash in the tyre and the tube.  The sidewall on my E-07 seemed particularly thin and fragile.  I was running high pressures.  So, for me, this excludes the E-07 from future use.

I replaced it with a Michelin T63, and so far I'm quite impressed.  Not quite D606 impressed, but it doesn't seem to be too noisy, grips well on tar, and offroad seems to be able to cope OK.  It seems to be (feathering? / pitting?) quite heavily already with only approximately 2000 km on, so I don't expect to see a huge amount of mileage out of it.  Perhaps 6000 km?

Groenie was also saying something about the rear T63 not working well on a KLR, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Then, I'm also wondering about tyres that are traditionally aimed more at the bigger bikes: TKC, Kenda Big Block, etc.  Shouldn't these offer really good mileage on a 650?

What do you okes think?
