This is either training or equipment related, so I am posting under general.

I can promise you that I have read lots, but still have a very specific question.

From what I gather so far is that for hard gravel roads, any tyre will do fine. Maybe just adjusting your pressure a bit mo on tar oriented tyres.

Here is my question: On many good gravel roads you sometimes find stretches of loose sand / gravel. I am not talking deep sand, but loose sand on the surface (say 2-4 cm). What is the best type of tyre in these situations? Will a more off-road type tyre (TKC type) do better than a deflated DS tyre (Tourance type)?

I am thinking of how the tyre â??floatsâ? on top of the sand and whether a more knobbly type tyre will â??dig inâ? more.

I have really read lots but am still a newbie with off-road riding. My question comes after a 150km gravel ride this weekend. I found that on the slightly loose sections my bike was snaking (I think this is the term) a bit. So, followed the rules, open up slightly and all turned out fine (moer scary though). Is this snaking normal or do I have the wrong tyre (Bridgestone Battlewing). Maybe it is not a tyre thing, rather confidence/technique.

Thanks for reading and hopefully the help.
