okay dogs here is my sad story. (and dont tell me to go buy a ktm, i wont they can also break) :xxbah:
Bought a 2009 model F800GS with 26600km on it, yes here on the forum. Paid R65K for it, had it serviced last month and fitted a new tappet gasket as it was leaking.(so around 70K in total spent to date)
Two weeks ago my youngster (KH jnr) tells me the scoots running kak, missing and black smoke from the exhaust...so i take the scoot to ol jughead and we do a compression test...LHS cylinder perfect, RHS cylinder nothing.
Today we did a bore inspection with a borrowed scope and could'nt find anything concrete. Difficult to say but it could be a broken ring.
The damage could have been from water damage or something.(maybe the bike was drowned prior to it standing for a few months - the original owner passed away in 2012 i think and the bike had been standing for a while)
The bike is really spotless, without any marks, EXCEPT for the farking motor. Now my question to the clever ones: :deal:
1) anyone got a motor i can buy, ACME say around R15K, and then its an unknown.
2) do i sell it as is with the motor in it - cut my losses
3) do i strip it and sell the spares and hopefully get near to my price and then cut my losses
4) buy a new casing and cylinder from BMW at around R23000, new rings and piston, labour etc....around 35000 in total.
5) the bike missed one or two of its yearly services due to standing so BM will not even entertain a goodwill claim (4 yr and 40000km)
6) can these cylinders be bored or honed, i believe they are coated with nickel of so iets..
Any kind of advice to make it easier will help...as can be expected im sommer lus to burn the farking thing... ???
