This is a quick ride report, on a long ride.

I went to bed really late, or should I say really earlyâ?¦ in the morning.
I fell asleep on the couch, while watching a dvd with the wife. Then off to bed, but I am wide awake. Eventually, I watched some tv, posted on the forum, but mainly hoped for the rain to stop.

After being awake more than sleeping, I eventually get out of bed at 3am and started to prep my bike. I also fitted slicks to my wifeâ??s mountain bike for her race on Sunday. Got going at 4:30am, on my way to meet Luislang  there.. the first of 4 that morning.

Image013.jpg

See the ugly FNB/Wesbank monster in the background.

Luislang arrived about 3 minutes after I filled up, formalities done.. we took the highway to the meeting point. We saw another 3 rolled cars in the 30 minutes it took us to get to the Engen garage in Pretoria.

We arrived at the Engen 15 minutes early. Adventure boy arrived and eventually Plothond & Co with quite a racket. Plothond sporting new pipes with NOTHING in themâ?¦

Took the road to Rayton to meet another rider (the name magically disappeared from my memory) Rode some really crappy gravel next to the railway tracks for a short stint. And thatâ??s where we encountered traces of the mud monster. Nothing too hectic.

Traveled some nice dirt in beautiful greenery.
And then the GPS-map combo seemed to not work together too great.

Why did Grootseun cross the road?
Image015.jpg

To get a picture from the other side.

Image016.jpg

My bike behaved really well, Iâ??m so proudâ?¦

Then when we sort of decided where to go, we hit the road again. With my New M2R Jacket, with a cellphone pocket in front, I could easily get to me new phone with dedicated camera button.

Got to open the dakâ??s throat a little and when we crested there was quite a nice view of the greeneryâ?¦it really is nice to ride sweeper with no dust.. and great scenery

Then the fun started.

The first mud encounters where luislang gooied the landing gear often.

The top layer of the gravel was smooth after the rain, and just below lays the mudâ?¦making the bike snake and wiggle all over the place, and thatâ??s even before hitting the mud patches.

Then up on a road with some serious rocksâ?¦good eyesight and object AVOIDANCE and not FIXATION is needed.

Then I saw tonteldoosâ?¦

Shortly after we arrived at our destination.. hungry and thirsty. Dullstroom, Mpumalanga
Image049.jpg

Luckily we had a nice waitress.. she could swim quite well under water I would imagineâ?¦
Image050.jpg

Then lotsa karkpraat.. loud laughterâ?¦.everyone speaking to Runner on the phone.
And a GREAT brekkie.

Then we hit the road back with the most stunning scenery of the day, I felt like I was in another countryâ?¦it was breathtaking.

Pics do not do it justice at all.

Image053.jpg

Some some family of luislang.

Image054.jpg

This little feisty Rinkhals was quite upset by the bikers disturbing itâ??s Saturday afternoon.
Really small snake.. it was about 30 cms long.. but not scared of big ugly bikersâ?¦he would have taken any one of usâ?¦

Hereafter I did not take any more pics. We hit some nice fast gravel.. in fact the autobahn of dirt roads. The boys on the 9fiddyâ??s and 990â??s left us behindâ?¦

Then it all came to an end. Plottie & Kie stopped at the dros in Middleburg for some golden liquid but Myself, Luislang and Adventure Boy decided to head home on the crap highway.

I did about 650kmâ??s for the day. It was the best riding I have yet encountered. I wanna do this ride again, it really is a great part of the country.

Thanx for Plothond for being our fearless leader, and everyone that joined this ride. Thanxfor the karkpraat and about a laugh a minute.

My Name is Grootseun and i dont really know what to write here.

Yep was a nice ride ,my gat was net lam van die moese ent huis toe !! Nice meeting everyone ...the not so Grootseun ,Adventureboy and Plottie ,and those whose names i forgot ... I will post some more pics tommorow ....now i just want my bike to sound like Plothonds ....friggin nice sound !!

What an awsome ride. 650ks on dirt does make for a long day and sore bum. Thanks to all especially Plothond for leading the ride and the new dogs met on the day. I could not retract the route without a significant amount of help. Ready to ride again when anyone is ready to go.

WTF?

Ek sou dit ook se Runner.  Lyk vir my die ouens het een bier te veel gehad want hulle het met my gepraat.  Ek sal nie eers wil dink wat kan gebeur nie as hulle rigting verloor het.

Lekker guys! Was very jealous but I had my little one Birthday party.

The difference between dry season and rainy season.

That piece of road must have been colorful in real time.

Nice one guys, you just got to love those long good gravel roads that allows you to let the bike fly, those long distance rides are really good fun with friends. Which reminds me...It's been about 2 months since the last long ride, need to get planning. :)

lekker gs & co! the green looks stunning!

Txs for sharing GS  ;)

Would have liked a close -up of the poepriete on Plothiond's bike.

Do they sound as good as they look  ???

He Leo

He came to show the new Xorst off at my place on Sat after the ride, man those things sound mean and at that price they sound even better. Nice pipes, may be a bit loud but sure sounds as if they left the engine rev easy....

;D ;D ;D

Here's my bit

Leaving the dirt for good for the day just outside Middleberg. This was dirt highway country and safe speeds of 160km/h were possible - lekker lekker   8)

I have no more pics, but need to share the following  ;D

Just after Bronkies, on the way to Donkerhoek we see 2 GS's standing on the opposite side of the road with the "mechanics" bent over one of the front wheels.

I motion to Leon that we may be able to assist and we swing around.
Turns out that the front caliper has siezed on the disc - seems like the servo went haywire. That bike was going no-where. I suggested they open the bleed valve, but alas they had no tools. Into my pack and some spanners later we loosen the valve and presto - eishhhhh !! she is coming loooose  ;D

They thank us profusely.
Now my riding buddies do the "normal" thing and turn around on the tar, but noooooo  >:D , not Plothond. Plothond needs to show off

So Plothond swings left, further into the veld, does a "U" turn and blasts off up the road reserve, all the while the back TKC is dancing like Michael Jackson in his heyday, kicking up dirt and those pipes, those pipes are growling like a brown bear on heat.

As I hit 5th, I spy (with my little eye) a big pile of "something", a DEEP pile of "something"

No time to stop and .....

SPLAT

I hit the stuff at full speed

Damn, it smell like PIGSHIT,

IT IS PIGSHIT

So that my friends, is why you should NEVER pose, it gets you into SH@T, PIGSHIT

It took hours to get myself, my kit and my bike clean - DAMN PIGS !!!  >:D >:D >:D

Thanks to Grootseun and others - I had a great day (well almost to the end)

Till we ride again  ;D ;D ;D

Bhwa-hahahahahahaha!

Shite bike riding in the shite! hehehehehehe

Sorry. Can't help myself. Hahahahhahaha

Eish, Plottie. That must have been one stinking mess.

Time for a braai-run again. I missed the braai last time round. That spot looks good!

Maybe something for December?

Lekker pics there.

Oh. And Kudo's to you guys turning around to assist fellow bikers. Well done.

GS. You look mightily impressed with the new jacket but that is taking posing to the extremes.
