The XR's have a reputation as being good , solid and reliable , but every now and again something goes wrong .
I have just stripped an XR650L for a client who shall remain nameless , this was a headscratcher because while stripping I am looking for something that could have caused the seizure , in this case the list of items needing replacement are , piston , conrod and big end bearings , main bearings , camshaft lobes damaged as well as the rockers and the bearings that the camshaft runs in , thankfully no damage to the cylinder head . In short a healthy bill , this morning I found the reason , an oil filter installed incorrectly , an easy mistake to make if the person hasn't done one of these before .
