Day 3
Some awoke fresh.....others not so much ......but everyone was there to take on the day of awesome Karoo dirtroad riding.
Personally I must have had at least half a bottie of Jeagermester........or so it felt. :dousing:
By 8 o clock we were all ready to depart towards Willowmore for some fuel and a brekkie at the local Belly Delly.
The lady of the house aptly named Eileen (if you can recall the song) :imaposer: was extremely proficient in organising 11 breakfasts some of which were gastronomic Karoo burgers with serious patties.
All of us had lots of coffee and at some stage the beers started flowing involuntarily again :thumleft:
I opted for an orange ambulance in stead because with every cough I could still taste the Jeagermeister.
It took me the best part of the morning on the road to Bhejane and Steytlerville to feel proficient enough to keep 2 wheels on the road
Phillip and his wife run an immaculate setup at Bhejane Lodge and are the friendliest people.
We actually got to buy some kudu biltong and wors as one of our companions had "forgotten his 2kg of billies at home" :
From Bhejane we proceeded to Steytlerville and because of a wrong turn somewhere unfortunately had to ride the last 30 k's on tar.
Veldtie had missed the first Bhejane turnoff and went on to Steytlerville earlier where we convened at the local Royal hotel.
We had a gettogether on the stoep and watched on as the Stormers performed dismally against the Sunwolves.
By halftime most of us had had enough and proceeded on the ride back to Willowmore for a fuel stop.
The road next to the mountain was freshly scraped and a gem to ride with our lightly packed bikes.
Long Backtyre spinmarks adorned every corner. Obviously care was given to the possibility of buck emerging from surrounding bush as no one was really in favour of colliding with Kudu.
At one point there was a mudd patch with a little driffie and some tracks from a bakkie.
I was in front at the time with Murphy right behind me.
I went through the water at pace sticking the front wheel through the centre of the deepest mudhole where it is the safest.
Apparently Murphy didn't and ended up in a mudbath.
After all the consternation I waited at the next gate and let the guys through. Murphy last with every inch of his bike, riding clothes and helmet caked in mud. The ride into the sun setting atop Willowmore was utter hell and the dust did not make it easier.
Anyway..........after the fuel-up in Willowmore we all proceeded at pace back to the Caves for a last night of jokes and banter.
Tomorrow we would all disperse into different directions. The 4 Gautengers were off to Pretoria and the Veldtie went on a solo to Ladismith while the Capies and PE Boys pinned it back to their respective destinations.
Just as a last resort "someone" let the air out of Franna's bike to make him change the tube the next morning.
Needless to say he was not impressed. We told him about the gag just before.............lol :imaposer: :imaposer: :imaposer:
Great Mates, Great rides, Good times.
Next year to the Tankwa!
