I often hang out here but don't contribute as much as a should, so lets change that.
For ages, I have wanted to have my own sandblasting cabinet, but hating spending money on something you can make yourself, I set about last weekend.
The idea is shamelessly taken off the net, use an oil drum.
I tried to focus on using as much scrap that I had kicking around the house (I am an amateur compares the grand master Grizz)
The drum I paid R20 from work some time ago, with this idea in mind.
The wood came from a crate lid that I knocked to fix my dogs kennels roof.
The "hopper for the sand" is a 5 litre HDPE can that I cut up so that I could use a suction gun and recycle the sand/beads
The gun and gloves were R300 from Addendorfs - not the best quality but since McCoy supply places are closed on the weekend, I had to make do.
Still to come:
- install light (recovered unit from somewhere round the house)
- drill cut out for air supply line
- drill and fit 40mm connection for old vacuum cleaner for dust extraction.
- fit neoprene seal for door.
- lick of paint
I have a hoard of unfinished projects, now my excuses of making it to the blasters wont hold as much water.
