What the Cowboy is to the USA the Vaquero to Mexico, the “Gaucho” is to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.
They were Spanish speaking horse riders and cattle ranchers working the vast grasslands or Pampas of South America.
Developing their own unique culture, style of dress and weaponry, the Cuchillos criollos (Creole knives) are unique to the Gauchos. Used for Working, skinning, butchering and of course fighting.
Not recognising any, King or Law the Gauchos were often in conflict with authorities or, being employed by them to work the vast herds of “Cimaron”, that is wild cattle and horses that had broken free and populated the Pampas.
Rutherford Forge has produced the “Criollo” it is a big knife capable of doing serious work…...
