Xr 650 fuel consumption

Ok so I just go bought a Xr 650 L 2008 model 30k odd I'm on it. My question at this point is I filled up the tank, took 10L or so. I rode 68 km when it died, switched over to reserve in the ride and just kept going, now I need to know where did 8L go?
