Had some time to kill today and with the Sani weekend trip looming decided to sort out my luggage situation.
Items required:
An offcut of 4mm marine grade aluminium plate
Handtools and Powertools
A drawing - see attached at the bottom of this post
Method:
1. The drawing (pdf) was printed out with no scaling option (None) enabled on the printer to ensure a true scale
2. I cut out the relevant bits and stuck this onto the 4mm plate with some contact adhesive.
3. Centre punch all hole positions and drill the necessary holes
4. Saw, grind, file and sand into final shape and finish
5. Be sure to chamfer / radius all external and especially internal edges to prevent damage to tie-down straps
5. Fit to bike and ready to go
The total operation took about 1.5 hours and its pretty lightweight at a few grams per bracket
