Yes it can be done. You can have a real front brake, it's n not a riff raff dodgy back yard solution, it works way better and safer than the flimsy OEM drum and it is NOT a fancy (= unaffordable and not period looking) custom job.
I have everything you need but only for one bike, this is a once off, not a regular "off the shelf "offer.
Complete front wheel (silver anodised aluminium rim, perfect condition, spokes and nipples clean. brake disc in good condition (little wear), caliper, axle, fork legs (also very good with no rust on inner tubes and no oil leaks), master cylinder & brake hose.
If you have an XT500 and want this done you can either buy the parts or bring the bike for the job. If I do the job I will document it here with pictures and everything.
