There's been some dust in the rear indicators on my bike for a while, also, the rear indicators had some movement on the rubber stalks, so today I had some time and decided to strip it down.
First I removed the lens, and prised the reflector from the housing - yes, it's dirty in there
Next I disconnected the wires and removed the reflector
Then the housing can simply be pulled off the stalk
I put some insulation tape around the rubber stalk to take up the play between the stalk and the housing
Then I closed it all up after putting some Vaseline around the edges to try and seal it better, we'll see how that works. The only problem is that Yamaha provided a drain hole on the bottom edge to drain water out, obviously that's where a lot of stuff gets in.
You can see the right hand one looks a lot clearer now. The play on the stalk is also gone.
I would have liked to use heat shrink or that magic self-fusing tape topbox has around the stalk on the outside, maybe next time.
I repeated the excercise on the other indicators as well. The front ones weren't that bad, both in terms of dust ingress, as well as free play on the stalk. Also, I struggled to remove the bulbs on the rear ones because of all the dust present.
If you have a 660Z, better clean those rear indicators or sometime the bulb might not be easily removable :thumleft:
