Having been witness and actor respectively in two instances of failure of the Aluminium foot pegs that the 1200 STen comes with, a plan had to be made. We looked at various options, the best cost effective solution derived from some thinking, re-thinking and lunch with Alec Salley (our local Yamaha dealer) and Fred (the Yamaha boss). At least we think so....
We used the steel pegs from the 08 WR's (new ones too expensive) and ground about 4-5 mm off the tube section where the spring fits over. Then drilled the mounting holes in the bike bigger, from 8 to 10 mm. The pins of the WR are 10 mm steel, and the aluminium pins on the ST are 8mm!
Used M10 bolts with washers and Nylock nuts to mount the pegs and this is the result. I am confident that broken pegs will now be a thing of the past on my bike.
