OK, so I am now a "new" 2stroke fan after only a few weeks on my 2008 YZ250.
I have renewed/serviced the rear suspension linkages so far.
There is this small trickle of black oil coming from above the water pump area.
Opened it up last night and discovered that the powervalve "shaft" has plenty of radial play on it. The oil seal as per manual is definately shot, BUT what is actually supporting this shaft? I have not opened the power valve assemble from the front yet - only from the righthand side, so the reason for this "play" is still to be uncovered.
From the manual it seems like 1) collar - not sure of radial support though, 2)oil seal and 3) the alum cylinder casting!!!
Anybody that have experience of this, please give some advice:
1) Is it possible to service/work on the powervalve without taking the complete engine out?
2) I have ordered the oil seal and collar in the mean time - not sure if this will stabilise the shaft enough though - what typically needs to be done to remove this play?
