Some real extreme adventure riding, thanks for sharing Metaljockey!

Liewe bliksem.

This makes "Angola - its not like they said" (which up until now ranked no 1 on my all time list of the hardcore of the ‘farking hardcordest’ ride reports ever produced here on Earth  and also on March, Jupiter and Venus) reads like a nursery rhyme.

You just know it must be tough if Mr Platinum Jockey starts complaining, taking siestas and ordering liter of water after liter of water instead of throwing back quarts.

In fact - I am starting to wonder if the whole thing was not staged and all pics were CGI's.

Couple of questions if you don't mind:

How much weight did you and Hennie loose during the trip? And why did you only eat once a day –due to unavailability of food or limited packing space?

What kind of stretcher did you use as a bed?

What front tyre did you fit on the BMX?

Thanks MJ – apart from the actual content itself, it is also refreshing to read such a technically well written ride report.

MetalJocakey, you don't do normal!?  :thumleft:

I did a ride three weeks ago were 60km took us 8hours, but this day after day....

Hi My name is domstes and I am a wuss.

MJ

Do you still think it was a bad days riding? I don't think I have ever done riding like that but I always get to take away a good thought or 2 after some time has past?

Also would like to know about the stretcher?

It's not only the trip that is unbelievable, or the spirit, it's the way it's all captured in words and pictures that makes us feel the beauty, the frustration and the exhaustion.  This RR is pure genius.

Thank you is inadequate!

again here reading ur report, u describe ur experiences so well, i can picture clearly how u guys must have felt, with the heat, the tsetse flies freaking u out by the minute, the gnarlied routes u were riding.......i feel exhausted just imagining the routes u conquered :D

u guys have ridden some really hectic stuff, been in places that not many of us can get 2 do..

u & Hennie work well 2gether as a team which is vital.... yet another trip of urs that is simply BRILLIANT ;D

I nominate this as the BEST ride report EVER!

It makes me think of that old (and slightly adjusted) Chuck Norris joke:

"When Metaljockey crosses water, he doesn't get wet, the river get's Metaljockey'd"

I actually hate reading your posts (well not really) because it makes me feel like a soft ****  :-[...BUT BUT I am going to toughen up and do a trip like this soon.....I hope ???.

Also THANK you for the comment on the MITAS TYRES and very happy that Hennie enjoyed them  ;D. Just as a note (and punt..sorry  :-[) Hennie used the MITAS E-09 Dakar rear which has a tougher rubber compound and additional ply to help avoid cuts and punctures and he also used the MITAS C-17 Dakar Front with the same construction (designed for the Dakar race). MJ Used the Tubliss back and front on his bike  ;D....nice to see my products helping guys to enjoy there trips....NOW I need to find a tsetsi fly killer  :D.

Holy crap that last day was hardcore.
it would have been the death of me. i would have demanded to be airlifted outta there.

kudos to you guys.

Eendag as ek groot is wil ek ook trips soos MJ doen en sulke pragtige pennevrug voorendag bring vir die skares

**Subscribed**

Awesome  :ricky:

Brilliant read and great pics. Thanks for going through hell for a great RR.
Just one question MJ.
Did you expect anything like this when you were planning the ride?

We did'nt check but I am almost back to original. We ended off the trip with three days at Chobe Safari Lodge in Kasane with our wives. Dinners are buffet affairs and we did our bit to resupply. Watching Hennie apply himself to a buffet is something to see. No conversation, not even eye contact with the other people at the table, just focus and dogged determination. He sees abuffet as a personal challenge.
The eating only once a day is not planned, it just turns out that way on trips. At home I normally have breakfast at 10 or 11, so we are not used to eating that early in the morning. We don't eat during the day because we are riding.

What kind of stretcher did you use as a bed?
It's an ATG stretcher.

I have been through a myriad of blow up and self inflating matresses. My problem is that I often bush camp, and it is just impossible to avoid punctures, no matter how hard you try to avoid thorns and the like.I have punctered every single one and I have never been able to find a stretcher that is light weight and compact enough to take on the bike.

This one is. Both light weight and compact. I carry it in my bag with my clothes and stuff.
Check it out.

Michnus is the guy to speak to. ATG is his brand, focused on quality light weight stuff for bikers.

What front tyre did you fit on the BMX?

Dunlop D606, probably the ideal tyre for the 650 and smaller class.

Yes.

I often have rides where I am overstretched, and have always been able to enjoy them and the memory.

Not this day, it was one thoroughly kak day.

Yes we knew there were going to be difficult days. We went against advice, so we got what we deserved.

We were prepared for lots of rain, mud and rivers. In the end we got less mud than we expected, no rain except the last day and fantastic rivers, lots of them.

We did not expect the grass to be so overwhelming though.

Dude, so far, SPECTACLAR!!!!!

I check back every half hour or so for updates... come on man, hurry up! :)
