I encountered this irritating problem after loading lots of mp3's onto a 2 Gig SD card.
Someone suggested storing the mp3's in subdirectories by artist which would speed the process up.
Because I had a collection of one hit wonders I didnt think replacing a mess of mp3's with a mess of sub directories would help but decided to give it a bash.
I downloaded a free utility called Media Monkey which arranges, sorts and generally manages media on your PC.
I moved all the mp3's from the SD card to a temp directory and let Media Monkey sort and create the artist directories and rewrite the songs to the SD card. What I did discover was that there appears to be a limit to the number of directories you can create on the card and to get around this I combined directories that contained only a few songs. It takes a while for Media Monkey to sort and write but requires little input from you.
Once done the Zumo boots in seconds again rather than minutes
