My mother in-law is up from CT , so this was the perfect time for me to jump on the Adventure and hit the mountains for a few days. (She can spend time with the wife and 1 year old whilst I go ride) Schweet. Only one problem, I sent out a post and NO one was keen to join me, oh well Iâ??ll just go it solo.  Just then I heard about this rally in Utrecht , and received at call from Super Juice to join. Flat out Iâ??m in. I have never been to a rally so would give it a bash, maybe some one would be keen to join me on my travels further into Lesotho. Iâ??m not one for much word so will post many pics with some explanations.
Happiness is a fully loaded 640 with a very fresh 606 on the rear.

My little guy with me just before I left Midrand

From home I met SJ at his house and we hit the road to Mikes place in Boksburg and then on to the black stuff till just before the De Hoek plasa where we found some dirt which lead to a gate , we turned back and did more tar

We stopped a few times on our way to memel , finding some dirt near conelia

After a short stop in Memel we took a nice round about gravel route to the RAAAALLLYYY

on one of the small passes we cam across this cat practising his rally skills , he needed  a lot more skills.

The next morning I packed up early and headed into town for some Pratley steel ( might need it later ) Checked this cat with clearly too much moola.

From there I hit as much dirt as I could on route to the bottom of SANI.

Anyone named GREGORY out there??

Followed by some snotty roads

dsc01197so8.jpg

From there I filled up in Escort and my slip reads as follows

21.15 ltrs for 404 kms , you do the maths. Remember I have a 28 ltr tank.

From there I headed towards Nottingham road for a beer at the Beerfassel.

Then it was a few kms of twisty tar where I put the 606s to the test.

Then I hit the dirt with a big smile on my face.
A quick glance at the lovely waterfall to the fight nearly put Kate on her side.

dsc01208pv3.jpg

the scenery on this road that hugs the bottom of the berg is awesome.

dsc01212zf1.jpg

A quick beer at the Himeville arms then it was only a few kms to the campsite at eth bottom of SANI.

The next morning ( Sunday ) I was up early at the SA border at 805 am.

The ride up the pass was fairy un eventful.

dsc01245fj7.jpg

A quick pic at the top and a turn in at the lodge to see if there were any other bikes and I was on my way.

dsc01249bf6.jpg

I had good time and the weather was good so I was hauling. Until some little bustard threw a nice sized stone in my general direction.

So I jumped onto the clamps and chased him.  Only problem was that the ground was so waterlogged and the 606s became slicks very quickly.

I go the bike up again and managed to plough most of the nicely manicured wheat field into a huge mess , destroying it in the process, Justice , ha ha , hope the little C£T starves in winter !!

From there it was nice and chilled , I had a lekker break at some pass drinking the mountain water and having a snack with a view.

dsc01256fa2.jpg

At this point all was going well , I was covering good ground ( wanted to make it to Ramabanta via a short cut to Semongkong) and the weather was good.

Then I came across this.

dsc01259xc4.jpg

A swollen river , not crossable on my bike. No problem I will juts put out the distress signal and hope Butch will see me from his chopper and lift me a across the swollen stream.
BUTCH !!!! BUTCH !!!!! help me !!!!

wait .wait .wait ..
.
No butch.

Ah well just wait some more .

After about an hour Franz arrives with his bakkie and we start chatting, we wait a little more and then this cat on the other side decides he is going to give it a bash.

dsc01270rh3.jpg

well after he makes it across , Franz and myself start thinking. Here is a plan , lets load the 640 on the back of his double cab for weight and give it a bash.

It works and we are across the river and I am on my way.

The next pic shows the small river we have just crossed, running into the bigger river.

dsc01279li9.jpg

About 20 minutes later I am faced with this

dsc01280kk3.jpg

Franz checking the level, not crossable by vehicle.

dsc01282aa1.jpg

We sit there for about half an hour wondering what to do , I need to carry on but how to get across. A few minutes later I learn of the â??ferry manâ?
Problem solved .The next few minutes were the high light of the trip, me and my 640 being rowed across the Senqu river in raging rapids.

I still had a good 50 kms left in the dark on the most winding roads mixed with drunk locals , dogs , goats and taxis. I never made it to Ram , but camped at the Trading post in Roma where I arrived , totally shattered at 19h30. I ordered 4 beers and downed them on after the next. Had my supper , two Cataflams and one stilnox and crashed.

dsc01322ji9.jpg

The following morning ( Monday ) I packed up early and hit the dirt , heading north , exited Lesotho via Peka and followed the dirt back to the big smoke.
