I was not planning on joining Sabie Valley Rider Academy's Orrie Baragwanath trip, but due to some last minute cancellations at work, I saw an opportunity and contacted Thomas Böhm who kindly agreed to me joining the trip which was already fully booked. The other riders would be joining from Gauteng and Thomas and I arranged to meet in lydenburg at 6:45 on Friday morning from where we would ride to meet the rest in Groblersdal.
I wanted to ride up Orrie with minimal luggage on the back of the bike so I packed very light for the weekend........ which lead to everyone asking if I need to borrow undies or a toothbrush for the weekend ;D

My plan was to leave Nelspruit at 5am to ensure that I was fuelled and ready to ride from Lydenburg at 6:45. Temperature was quite high in Nelspruit and I foolishly left home with GS gloves and Body armour and MX jersey. I nearly died from hypothermia in the low lying areas riding towards Sabie and my hands were numb from the cold. I stopped to put on my rain jacket which helped to ease the cold, but my hands were starting to ache as temperatures reached 1 degree C in spots. I was expecting to see even lower temps on Longtom pass, but to my surprise temps rose to 16 degrees on the pass and it felt like someone put a heater on somewhere.
At the viewpoint on Longtom Pass I stopped as the sun was starting to rise and tried to get some feeling back in my hands

We stopped at a little shop just before the start of Orrie to take a break, have some coldrinks and snacks. We were also waiting for James who was held up at a client in Marblehall.
