I enjoy camping with the bike, but some very remote sites are not always easy to arrange for wood to be provided on site. In the Karoo especially there isn't really an abundance of wood to collect.
Tying a bag behind me on the pillion seat will surely damage the seat on gravel roads out of the last town to that ideal remote camping spot. And camping without a camp fire and a tjoppie isn't really camping...
