1000 Hills Rally Kzn - 'Dakar type' road book rally - What a blast !

The roadbook setup does not have to cost much.

A compass was then stuck on the the box for the CAP heading.

This worked very well and some riders with the fancy equipment were asking the guys with the tupperware where to go...... :deal:

Thanks guys for the awesome ride and the effort put into this day. Can't wait for the next one!
next one will hopefully be a 2 day with some more riders joining in on the fun.
Lessons learned here, make sure to calibrate your odometer before taking part in events like this or get one that you can set as you go.
Listen when the briefing is being held avoiding navigation mistakes like asking the locals if any bikes have come past, or taking the right path when you supposed to take the left one, and last but not least when unsure where to go use CAP heading!!!
So the next question is when do e get to see the videos?
Thanks again for the great time
Seb i'd like to see the part when you were telling me to push while i was wiping the mud out of my eyes.

Guys i've been giving myself poos klaps all morning. this is an Iphone application i found BEFORE the rally. i didn't realize how useful it would have been. :lamer:

Can set and reset  odometer and trip on the fly and one touch reset. Brilliant. Only drawback is that it uses cell phone data so not sure how pricey it would be? also got speedo and CAP indication

Rally Blitz - Motorcycle Rally App Overview

Cost R160 :thumleft:

Hey all!
Yes as has been said - what a blast!!!! I really had a fantastic time and I had some good laughs too
Well done to the organisers and all the helpers - without your this could not be possible  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
The route was truly amazing and a nice mix of technical and open sections. I appreciate ALL the effort that it took to get that right - no mean feat.

I think that The organisers did a fantastic job of creating an intro into Rally racing...from the planning, equipment, support and talk to the  hard work on bikes the night before... Rally riding is something you can talk about and discuss till you are blue in the face, but nothing comes close to you, your Bike, your road-book and the tricks your mind can play. 1000 Hills Rally gave a bunch of guys that taste of what its really like.
The navigation in one or 2 sections was pretty challenging. The rest was perfect and could be managed at speed.

The riders were a bunch of great characters. Not one complaint, not any frowns, just laughs and excitement - well done to all!
Special mention (on the rider front) must got to:
Glen - I've ridden with you once before and you are a true inspiration.
Dave - Well done bud  - you showed true grit and determination - exactly what rally requires - Imagine how you would fair with some non-road-tyres!
Airheadsmile - for taking it on with inappropriate equipment and making it your *****....hope that clutch repair is not too much hassel ;)
Cracker - for coming all the way from JHB - respect!!!

I have some awesome footage....and i'll get onto that asap :thumleft:
Thanks again guys...and lets get to planning the next one please! I'm there like...braaaaaaaaaaap

Will this thing work where there is no cell reception or intermittent reception?
Will save me some moola if it works.
You can combine with bike trip meter I supose

Nice one Jeff !!! Maybe I can like to participate next time round..... :thumleft:

Great looking Screen on that 1100 piggie, airheadsmile ! ;)

Pleasure and thanks bonovo and Bram.....

Matching the route and the roadbook is quite complicated and took two of us stopping at each waypoint and taking notes and adding waypoints and km,s etc.

This rally had 90 waypoints/ navigational points........ and it was 5/6 hours long...... meaning lots of turns compared to desert or wide open terrain.

I have the two day route almost complete in my head so now I must just go and ride
it..............  :ricky: :3some: :thumleft:

I hope that app works Seb.........that will be a winner so let us know.

Thanx , will really give this some thought !

Im already thinking about a route  ;)

@ROLLING STONE

Ok I'm very excited. gees the smallest things excite me................... :-[

This software is the bomb! :thumleft:

Turned off SIM card and  turned off all data and the software still works 100%. drove to work everything worked as you would expect. so no cell phone reception i.e. no sim card and no data service just GPS on phone.

So what does this mean i hear you asking? this means if you have an IPhone then you have a GOC device for the cost of R160! :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

If you don't have a IPhone buy an old IPhone 4 that some one has done an upgrade on.

Super easy to use and does not have any data implications. would only have to use a charger on longer stages.

I would love somebody to confirm my findings but I'm pretty sure I'm correct. 8)

With the route Lamo and I have in mind it is so easy to do a three day rally.... :thumleft: :deal: :ricky: :3some:

Take the leap and lets do it  :ricky:

Rally Blitz is the bomb. I'm hoping that Highway Dirtbikes release their case/charger/remote button system in time for Amageza. No ICO sensor wires to worry about!
