Hi

I am going to attach a 12V external power socket onto the KLR, mainly to charge my cellphone while riding, perhaps to run a mini compressor to inflate flats, charge the ipod etc etc.

However, the little battery looks so small and for someone as stupid as myself with ten unopposable thumbs,  I was just wondering firstly if it will be ok just to connect the wires from the external outlet directly on to the battery poles?

Secondly, to what extent can one request additional power from the battery? I have already connected my Garmin GPSMAP 96C's power cable directly onto the battery - if the GPS is plugged in, its running off the battery, whether the bike is switched on or not and this worked fine up until now. I am however worried that if I also start charging phones, ipod's etc that the battery (and/or alternator?) won't be able to provide enough power?

Thirdly, I suppose when charging a flat with the mini compressor, its best to let the engine idle, or is the stock battery strong enough to run a compressor for 5-6 minutes AND then start the engine thereafter?

Also, any suggestions from previous experiences where one SHOULD and where one SHOULD NOT attach the 12v outlet?

What type of outlet will you recommend (i.e. something waterproof)?

Any pointers will be most welcome - ta!
