5 Windhoek riders will leave home on Friday, 8 June on a 4 day (3 night) trip to Eastern Namibia. The group is a diverse one, ranging from very young to not so young (Introductions later).  The bikes are a Yamaha 1200 Super Tenere, 2 Yamaha 660 Teneres, a KTM 950 Adventure and a KTM 990 Adventure.

Eastern Namibia was chosen as a destination as it is seldom visited by bikers (Charley and Ewan were there though), but is very popular with 4 x 4 enthusiasts. We have planned a route that tries to minimize tar road travel. The first night will be spent camping somewhere East of Otjinene, close to Gam. Night 2 will be spent in Tsumkwe in Bushmanland and the third night will be at the Waterberg Park, East of Otjiwarongo. The route is a circular (anti clockwise) one.

We are not certain about the condition of all the roads, however we know that the road between Otjinene and Gam has been surfaced to a good gravel standard. Previously it was a tweespoor paaidjie with deep sand, difficult for bikes. Good planning for fuel is essential (especially for the KTMs) as the availability in Tsumkwe is uncertain. We have made arrangements for fuel at the Tsumkwe Country Lodge. Each rider will have to provide enough fuel for himself to manage at least 400 km.

The proposed route :

This coming week will be a busy one preparing for adventure.

Holding thumbs that all goes well around Tsumkwe.  Last news was that only 4x4's in good condition were able to drive there .  Might have been only in the park area - Please post losts of photos afterwards

Enjoy the trip  :thumleft:

I wonder how that Tsumkwe to Otjinene piece looks like?

Whew........  I've been away most of the week so wasn't able to prepare like I would have wanted to. Got back home late last night from Tsumeb (got a contract there) and spent the greater part of the day at work.

Eventually, after getting home, there was a long power failure in our part of Windhoek so had to do much of the preparation of the bike and luggage by torchlight. Not ideal but have most of the stuff complete. I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the crew tomorrow morning at 07h30 at the "Super Spar" for a brotchen and a coffee before heading off.

There was fortunately enough time to give the bike a good clean this afternoon

Load the luggage - Note there's enough fuel to cover 500 km

We're back ........

After 4 days, 1600 kms, 87 litres of petrol for the 990R (I'm sure the others used a lot less), a few spills, some bruises but no broken bones, minimal damage to bikes, great camping, a lot of laughs, cool company and generally good clean fun, the group rolled back into Windhoek extremely satisfied with a wonderful trip.

Report will follow but a preview of what there was quite a lot of
