76 CSx RAM mount

after much deliberation,  and a whole lot of saving...
got me grubby mitts on one of these today!!!

simple things confuse me...
like the RAM mount:

from what i can see the ram mount's 'open end' of the bracket must face down.
how the hell do you put the thing in the bracket??????????????
as a kid i managed to get the right shaped things in the right holes
i'm pleased to say,  that for the most part,  as an adult it has continued...
but this thing is baffling me.....
just bend the open sides to the bracket wide open and slot it in????

I am heavy handed
i just got the toy
please help...
