So, though you did attend and do quite a bit of, let's say off the beaten track type riding, what did you learn?

Some off the things that stood out.

How to recover from stalling on a very steep hill, leaning the bike and feathering the clutch one tooth at a time, then doing the lock to lock handlebar turn to get it down.

Emergency braking, locking the rear and keeping it sliding straight.

Powerslide lessons, I can do it well while sitting on my bike, but doing it standing on this bike was great fun.

How to ride across a 1mX1m hole, that was lekker fun

I also learned there is no such thing as "this bike is to big to do this"

Lekker ET.

Hi E, Sorry to Hi-jack your thread, I just took a 990S (KTM in Centurion) for a test ride
I can't stop smiling, with an opportunity like this that you've had, if it was me I don't think they will get me to give the bike back

What a magic report Etienne!
It was an awesome weekend and I can only second every thing that you said.
The first thing I did when I got back was to phone my riding mate and tell him he just has to do the course.
I hope that you were not feeling sore today after all the help you gave me picking up my bike on the way to and from the beach!
Thanks again
Bruce

Ettine2t ... I am worried about Country Trax giving a big bike like that to an 18 year old ... that's very dangerous isn't it ... shouldn't you be a wr250 or something like that ?

I'd disagree.

Etienne has already proved his ability on various bikes. He has already learnt some hard lessons - and shared those lessons. From the interactions I've had with him his head is also screwed on a lot better than a lot of the "kids" I see stumbling around Stellenbosch's streets...

Which is better: (a) rich daddy giving darling son a 990 for his 18th birthday and sending him out into the world without training, or (b) being sponsored a 990 at a structured, guided professional training course because you have already proven your riding ability to both the sponsors and trainers that invited you to the course?

There are 16-18 yr olds that'd ride the pants off a lot (most?) of the big-bike riders here, and a lot of "mature adults" on this forum that behave far worse than some young adults - so the age argument doesn't hold up.

+1 Go to a junior enduro or motoX race. You will be amazed!

It says much about both Country Trax and E.

"If you're good enough, you're old enough"

Plus, I'm not sure a 250 is any less lethal than a 990. If you're being a doos or are incompetent, either have about equal capacity to hand out a tension slap in short order.

it was a tongue in chick comment ... i was just surprised by how young the Ettien2T is ... i think they are maybe trying to set him up for a job there ... i am watching this space

Does your chick know about you telling us :peepwall:

Ettienne, mooi gedoen. Eendag as ek groot is sal ek ook een van die kursusse doen. Ek moet eers net tyd maak, fikser word en my knaters inhandig sodat hulle ge-galvanize kan word. No probs.

Tot dan commute ek...

Bruce, I am also lucky enough to own a Kalahari and I am considering doing the course on the bike. How did the bike perform? Does the bike limit the learnings from the course or can it do everything that its younger siblings do?

Dis nou pret.
