I have the Oxford Sports Humpback panniers - although I don't think that it would make a difference what panniers you use.

On the '08 KLR, there are little bobbins on the exhaust with rubber tips that hold the plastic shroud away from the exhaust.  I have no plastic melted or deformation or anything on the inside of the shrouds, so it seems to have worked  ;D

Thanks IDR.  I just came back from a 4 000 km trip (hence only now back on WD site) and althought I still did not trust the heat from the exhaust and ended up making a bit of a spacer frame all I can say, KLR two up long trip - Man needs nothing more!
