Bike
BMW R1150GS
Its a long story ....
It begins with my beloved Pig ...BMW 1150 GS ....and the onset of old age.

Now guys ...don't get too excited ...this is going to be a long drawn out post , but one that will hopefully make you understand how age can suddenly creep up on you and make you realise that... suddenly you are not invinsable .....I wish this forum had a bloody spell check ...

So ....lets start from the beginning.

THE PIG.
Once upon a time ...I had a pig.
I loved that bike ...It was me ...I travelled far and wide on that bike , I was proud on that bike , She represented every thing I admired in a bike. She was in your face, she was different ...ugly ...yet beautiful, I trusted her, like I trusted no other , She was my friend and my security. She was my lover.
But over time , as age drew upon me , I realised that my beloved pig was getting to much for me , so I let her go.

after I sprayed her pink...................... :lol8: :imaposer:

Soooooo....
her replacement was the XT660R....The Black Bitch.
I thought that a very much lighter mistress, with a bit of spunk would be the answer....and she was good ...make no mistake , but I missed the solid planted feel of the pig. The black bitch was certainly flighty , powerful and economical ..but she lacked the character of the Pig , She was like a terrified teenager on her first date ...No thats not a good comparison ...but it will do for now.  I tried ....but I knew it would not work..we just had nothing in common . The Black bitch was just shallow with no substance. We went the distance a couple of times , but , I could never get serious about her. Its like... we just could not connect ....and make no mistake ...she was pretty, and respectable...but just lacked in character. Such a shame  ::)

So we parted of the ways.

So now there is a new lady in my life .....

:lol8: Now get on with it dammit! Been enjoying the Nam Old Lady trip tremendously and now you going to my old hometown on a blind date...

You said it .....Blind date is the word

Wish me luck ...

Enjoy your Tenere, but - without knowing you to be fair - I have a hunch you would have been better off with your old BMW pig. Tenere, while lighter, is more top heavy and for aging riders (not implying you are one - just saying), getting on Tenere requires much more gymnastics due to the stupid stepped passenger seat - it is actually one of the trikiest bike to climb on, especially with luggage. If you read this before you buy, maybe just try few times climb on and off the bike and think carefully how often you want to do that, especially getting older.

My understanding is that you are moving from R to Z to get more heft and hence stability on gravel roads. GS generally is even more stable. And it is more comfortable.

Not trying to swing you or anything, just trying to give few pointers to consider before you buy. I had (still have actually, but don't ride) 1150 GSA as well as Tenere. For my kind of riding which involves a lot of remote double tracks and deep sand, Tenere wins hands down, but for the more mainstream gravel travel it doesn't. For example Namibia dirt highways - GSA hands down any time, Tenere just lacks power there and the high COG on corrugations gets old quickly.

Good luck!!!
Hope this mistress is a keeper!!!!

If you are going to buy the one with the optional lowering kit....damn you!!!.....I was planing on buying it for my wife, when i phoned, the guy said he is already holding it for someone from Cape town (apparently an old guy :imaposer:). :snorting: :snorting:

I have a sexy white 660 Tenere, had it since November 2015....did 16000km since then and loving every moment of it. Will ride it till i can't ride no more!!!!
She has taken me up Sani pass, thru Lesotho, thru Swaziland and thru the sands of Mozambique...........don't do go into the sand of Moz.........it's super Crap!!!!......not fun picking your bike up every few meters. But other than that its a great bike!!!!

PS.....you have to fit a real exhaust, the standard one sounds like its having an asthma attack. :ricky:

Enjoy!! :thumleft:

Ok ...so I'm back from my "Blind Date".....and what a date it was ....I'm in love  :love4: :love4: :love4: :love4:

Flew out on short notice on Saturday ...which was a bit rude as I had invited a couple of Dogs over for a work session on RI's Purple Turtle. The plan was to get the Purple Turtle sorted for the Thumper bash and a lekker kuier...but at 2.30 I flew out that door to the airport and left XT Joe , Parkingoff and his son and Ri struggling
with a puncture and some wiring issues on the DR. As I expected ...all was sorted without my supervision  :imaposer: :imaposer: Well done guys and gal ..you did a great job. Dammm ..on the way to the airport there was a hold up on the highway ...I made that flight with less than a minute to spare. My wife learnt a whole new language that afternoon.
Anyways ...so off I flew to East London to collect a bike that I had not seen from a person who I had not met ...who had my money ...and I no idea where I was going to stay that night, and a weather forecast that looked pretty shit for the +1000 km ride back to Cape Town on a bike I had never ridden  ... Dammm... I love adventure

So ...arrived at East London at 17.30 ...the seller was there to meet me ...what a gentleman ..and off the his house to meet the blind date.
DOGS ...I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED ...I think I might have made a little oops in my underpants when I saw this beaut ...she is fecking GEORGEOUS ...and I mean GEORGEOUS ...you can run down Gumtree all you like ...but occasionally there are some genuine good deals to be had.

So...paper work done and I'm off to Hoylake Guest house ...a new Wild Dog member ...and again ...I was not disappointed. This place is stunning ...and I got a Wilddog Discount ... Dylan ...what a pleasure it was staying at your place ...what great hospitality ...I'LL BE BACK

So ...6.30am Sunday morning , I'm on my way back to Cape Town ...The weather forecast still worries me ...but awe WTF.
So off I go... the Ten is in her element ...music in my ears ...life don't get much better than this .....but disaster looms ....

Tune into tomorrows episode ..... :lol8: :lol8: :lol8:
