Aftermarket Fuel Pump??

Trying to help a friend to get his Dakar running.

I have read somewhere there is a aftermarket fuel pump that can be used in the older Dakars, available from Midas, and I seem to remember Opel or Polo.

Does anybody have details on this. Unfortunatly the budget is to tight to support BMW at this stage.
