In shopping around for a bike in the R80k area I'm seeing a bunch of Triumph 800XC, F800GS etc, and then a handful of 1150/1200GS and 990 Adv.
The newer bikes have under 20,000km on the clock, whereas the older bikes have triple that.
Sure, the 990 has 10 or so extra horses over the modern 800's and the newer bikes have more bells & whistles, but is that it?
Are the older bikes just leaning on legend tax are are they actually that close to the modern bikes in terms of engine, suspension, handling etc?
Is the lack of character/soul in the new bikes actually making them cheaper?
In short; Given R80k, would you buy a 2009 990 Adv or 1150/1200GS with over 40,000km on the clock or a 2011 800GS/XC with less than 10,000km?
