BaseCamp Garmin Help

Helping a friend plan a trip. We have plotted the routes via BaseCamp and have tried in vain to move the GPX files to his Garmin SmartDrive 66. The unit has T4A as well. If I move them across as a track, it shows the files in the devices folder on BaseCamp. However, if I put them in a routes, when I boot the device up, it says "cannot download route" and then auto deletes them. As for the tracks, I cannot locate them anywhere on the device?

Any ideas would be welcomed please
