Battery desulfation

I still use a Hawkins battery charger without these fancy functions found on the newer chargers. I charge a wide variety of batteries, bikes, trucks, tractors etc and according to what one read, battery sulfasion is a big culprit in shortening a batterie’s lifespan.

Question is, does the desulfasion modes work, can they actually revive a battery that otherwise is on it’s way out?
