Best Route, Bloem to Plett, and then N1?

Not Bike related.
My wife and I are off to Bloem on Saturday, and then Plett on Sunday.
Best route??
Aliwal North?
Then, we're travelling directly from Cape Town to Bethlehem around the 3d of January......how's the N1, or are there alternative routes?
We'll be using her Platcar, Mercedes Stasiewaentjie.
