"An old RSA Immigration requirement was implemented at the Komatipoort border affecting Mozambican and non-SA passport holders.
With immediate effect each adult passport holder must be able to physically show R3000 in cash OR a credit card with bank statement.
The reasoning behind this is to demonstrate that visitors will have the means to sustain themselves for the 30 day visa period. Regardless if the purpose of the visit is only for one day.
(This measure is causing severe inconvenience currently and a formal protest is expected from the Mozambican government)"
It will be best to stay away from the Ressano Garcia border for a few days or until things have been sorted out. There were riots there today with the unannounced implementation of this measure apparently "to stop the spread of Ebola virus". When this was in place before there were frequent muggings of Mozambicans entering SA. Just imagine a taxi with R45,000 worth of passengers - a tasty target.
We have not heard of trouble at Jeppe's Reef or other borders leading in from Swaziland.
