I'm playing with the idea to designing custom bash plates out of Stainless Steel and started to look around as to what is available on the market, with the majority (if not all) being Aluminium.
I assume the main reason for this is the weight?
Considering a 500x500x3mm thick piece of 304 Stainless Steel that will just be short of bullet proof will weigh 5.9kg
vs. an aluminium plate that 500x500x4mm thick that will weigh 2.69kg
Is this difference in weight not negligible, especially taking into consideration that this extra kg or two is sitting exactly where you want it to be.....nice and low down?
Looking forward to your inputs and ideas?
