Bike selection for my needs

Hi All,
throwing this question out to all, any suggestions/advice welcome.

I am in the market for a bike that must serve 2 purposes:
1. Daily commute, and
2. Adventure type riding on the weekend.

But,
1. The daily commute is from near Hartebeespoort Dam to Vanderbijlpark almost every day of the week.  Other days are to my official office in Woodmead, so along the N1 in traffic.  Because of the distance to VDBP, 190km return, I need a fuel efficient bike with a big tank.
2. Weekend adventure riding I need a bike that can cut it far off the road - outside of SA, so reliability etc.

Have considered
New: the KTM 990, Yamaha Tenere (considering the 690 Oryx)
2nd hand: as above.

Any other suggestions?
