Hi all, recently did a 6 ride through transkei - was very cool, except my rims (as well as 3 other 800gs owners rims) took a seevre beating. However all the other non 800gs riders rims were fine.
My logical side says that there is a serious issue with the strength of the 800's rims. I got a quote to replace them with new ones, 16k for both. :'( ...
So my thinking is to not just get new ones and be in the same position next time I do a long ride. Does anyone know any other manafacturer that make srims that will fit the 800's hubs without making any "funny" mods. If so, could you let me know. I was thinking maybe getting a set of Excel's and fitting them to the bike, A - they will probably be cheaper and B - last much longer.
