So i have this old girl R75/5 that i customised and was looking for some front disks for
When i saw an advert on Gumtree for a BMW R1100GS bike stripped damaged gearbox. Went have a look and ended up buying the bike for R4k . Its licensed and was apparently running fine before gearbox issues. This is what i got
stripped gearbox. bearing failure caused 2nd gear fork to jam and break causing 2nd gear to fail and put a hole in the casing. Phoned every where in SA looking for a replacement box or spares and found nothing. Ended up driving 2km to Peter Marshalls Motorcycles and guess what i found. a R1100GS gearbox (slightly different ratios) that had been involved in a crash i.e. broken front and back housings but all internals good for a whopping R1k ;D
Found manual online and rebuilt using internals and old repaired housing
work around this
\
to get gearbox in
spend hours trying to work out how everything goes back together and what's missing. get swing arm and rear wheel mounted. also fit new battery and accelerater cable(old ones cut). airboxes and throttle bodies also mounted
sand blast and powder coat rear sub frame and handle bars. mount rear mud guard
Mount exhaust and clean up rims. starting to look like a bike. Start bike up but running rough
Get seats recovered
Get dented tank sand blasted and scratched plastics cleaned up and resprayed.
decide to go Scarlet Red
reassemble rear plastics rewire indicators and lights
assemble front end rewire switched
mount tank and wind shield hand protectors etc.
Sent to Marshalls Motorcycles to look at rough running. Injectors found to be dirty so had them cleaned by Bosch.
New details coming soon!
