BMW800GS not starting

Yesterday after a coffee break, my buddies 800GS wouldn't start, and gave symptoms of a flat battery. I tried pushing it, to na avail. I then went for jumper leads, when all of a sudden, it just started again. Any suggestions on the cause for this.
