So the rain let up for a few hours to give us the opportunity to go practice falling in sand.

When I got to the sandpit, Briv and Mountainboy were waiting.
Mr Big rocked up just thereafter with a galant rear-wheel slide just to show that he ain't afraid of no sand..

We rode around in the sandpit (no piccies of this, Briv will hopefully post some)
It was great fun, there was a pool of water right in the middle, and the sand was quite hard around it.
The further you rode from the middle, the looser the sand became, and before long the first victim was claimed - MrBig went down while riding the AT like Alfie Cox - in the loose stuff at the top.

Mountainboy decided the 650GS has gotta eat some sand.

Brand new bike. In the sand.  ;D ;D

Now we decided to head back tot the sandpit and do some loops.
It was a blast. I rode through the puddle in the middle a few times. Lekker.

MrBig rides sand really well. He played with me in the sandpit on the heavy AT like it aint no thang. 8) ;D

Then he dropped it, I helped him pick it up, and my bike promptly fell over, breaking my clutchlever off.
Damn!!!!

So we called it a day, the other guys went for a beer, and I rode home without a clutch.
Timed the robots to perfection, except one, but luckily MrBig came riding up and gave me a pushstart when the light turned green.

All in all a great day. Briv has more piccies.

OK some more sand pics make your own captions ;)  Leeekaaaa ;D

Lekker speeltyd!

And honing/learning new skills.

Congrats on the bike LS. Sure looks good in black.

Congrats on your bike as well Kaboef! The 650's are lekker!

So. How did you two experience your first (I assume) experience riding more technical on the 650's?

Sorry guys was held up and got there just in time to see everybody leaving.
Real pity i missed it, nice photos

Dont worry top'ys you where'nt the only one... I got a flat front on the M3 on the way through.... >:D >:D Spent nearly 2 hours fixing it due to piss poor technique!!! ;D ;D

All in a days work though, needed the practise!

Topbox and Paramed, sorry you didn't make it. Next time. ;)

JM, the XR surprised me with its agility in the sand. Its amazing, I cant stop grinning.

;D

Congrats on the first outing LS and Kaboef.
Next to the 1200 in sand, it must feel like cheating.

Come on LS, Kaboef what's the verdict on the bikes?

Love or hate 'em?

Well, its different from the AT and GSA.
They were luxury tourers in comparision to the XR.

But for one-up trips, the 650's are great. Less weight and more agility means more playtime and the ability to really go where you want to.

The bike also has got "personality", something the GSA lacked. I never felt a bond with the GSA.
I had it with the AT, and now with the XR.

So to sum it up: Its all about compromise in the end. I cant do LOOOOOONG 2-up trips any more, but I can go into the sticks and not worry about how I'm going to get out again.
So: Better photo oppurtunities. ;D

Compromise: The bane of the DS rider.
:D :D

Well there's always the option of getting MA on her own bike ;)

Nice one capies..that sand looks really lekker.

Congrats on the first outing with the new bikes LS and Kaboef...

nice piccies.

Funny you should say that
That's exactly how it felt! Riding in sand took no effort at all compared to the GSA

Unfortunately I couldn't do any high revving activities because the engine only had 30km on the clock at the time - but it was a fun ride nevertheless

Thanks for a GREAT time guys!
It's always great fun in the sand!

Pity we had so little time - would've loved to mark a course and did some proper riding!
Maybe next time..

bunch of pansies
real men do it on 19" wheels

to easyyyyyyyyyyyyy on 21" wheels

loads of fun tho - only had 5 falls (anyone want falling tips -pls feel free to contact me)

had one high speed fall which was witnessed by LS - pretty spectacular from inside the helmet - would hate to look at me from the ouside!!!!
