My KLR has 37000km on the clock
I tend to ride with a chain setting that has more play in it than the prescribed amount. (50+mm) About two week ago I noticed that the chain had quite a bit of sag at the bottom. I tensioned the chain, and left it with a +/- 70mm free movement.
Pulling away on Friday I could hear a strange noise from the chain, as if it was dragging on the swing arm.
Got home, re-tensioned the chain to about 50mm movement. When I spun the rear wheel after the adjustment, it actually stopped at one point, and I found virtually no free play in the chain. Turned the wheel back, and the 50mm free play was back
I removed the wheel, and checked the bearings as well as the shock absorption rubbers. The bearings feel OK, and the rubbers have a little bit of movement on them
Is this normal chain wear & tear ? Then why is the wear not uniform ?
Advice appreciated, thanks !
