The fourth round of the Cape South Easter Execuline Springbok racing series for historic cars returns to Killarney on 6 and 7 February.

This year we again have a substantial contingent of overseas cars mostly from the UK with 2 cars joining the fray from Europe.

The number of South African cars that will compete in Cape Town has grown from strength to strength over the last few years with locally built replicas such as Ford Gt40’s, Lola T70’s Porsche 917’s to name but a few.

The car of the show will be Irvine Laidlaw’s 1957 Aston Martin DBR2/1 which is one of only two in the world. The other resides in Canada. This is one of the most expensive cars ever to race in South Africa, with the current owner having paid 6.3 million pounds for the car! For the classic car enthusiast to hear this car at full chat is an experience of a life time.

Irvine Laidlaw has not stopped there. He has also brought his 312 Ferrari which has been completely rebuilt after its accident at Zwartkops last year.

From Europe we will have the very quick Corvette of Michiel Champagne as well as a V8 TVR.

There is a full container of rare and valuable historic motor cycles from the UK lead by Mick Grant, multiple Isle of Mann winner.

On Sunday the 7th, there will be a Concours d’ Elegance, sponsored by Classic and Performance Car magazine. At 12:00 the judges will chose the couple from the Concours entrants who are dressed in the best period costumes.

These cars will be some the best cars on display from the local car clubs. The winners of the Concours from the November car show will also be on display.

Other classic cars will be welcome to park on the grassed area in the centre of the circuit as in previous years.

Racing starts at 10:50 am on Saturday 6 Feb and 9:30 on Sunday 6 February.

The rules and regulations, timetables and entry forms appear on the Western Province Motor Club website www.wpmc.co.za or on www.the9hour.com

Ticket prices are R 80 for adults for each of the days with a special weekend pass at R120 for both days. Children under 16 will pay R 20.

The diagram highlights improved: ENTRANCES, PARKING & NEW PITS as well as a CIRCUIT CROSSING point to be used to gain access from the NEW PITS between races. Also look out for the free spectator taxi’s giving lifts from the karting circuit to the main pits area.
