Would appreciate some input from those in the trade please: I plan on casting a concrete slab over well compacted old bricks and pavers. Have been doing similar slabs and toppings in other areas with great results. However this one will be higher than the house's DPC and my neighbour (handyman builder) said that I should consider leaving a channel for moisture drainage (see basic drawing I made to illustrate).
Due to dirt, leaves and perhaps rain water that will get into the channel, as well as the way it looks, I would prefer to have the slab continue all the way up to the house's extertior wall, but understand the purpose of the channel due to the different DPC's and levels. Is it perhaps an option to fill the channel with crushed stone and lightly covering it with concrete on top? Or will it remain damp inside?
Any ideas will be appreciated please.
Kind regards
