Myself and Li were lucky enough to be invited to the inaugural Country Trax, Maluti Adventures training week end that took place in Clocolaan this last weekend (8th to 10th July)
Initially we planed to ride there but due to some work commitments and a pleading Laurika we decided to trailer our 2 bikes as well as Laurikas steed, Poor girl had to work right through the night on Wednesday and wasn't in the mood to spend the day on the bike after no sleep the night before.
We arranged a larger trailer from Pistol (thanks Mate owe you a beer or 24) and got everything packed and ready to leave Joburg at 12 on Thursday afternoon. I must admit that I was very weary of going to a "unknown" lodge to do bike training in the middle of a kak cold winter in possibly the coldest place in SA at the moment and not knowing what the accommodations would be like.
So as you can imagine we weren't exactly packed light!! Extra fooking everything!! Sleeping bags jackets etc etc etc
The poor Kia's belly was almost hanging on the ground by the time we left.
Setting off at a steady pace of 110 we headed towards Grasmere Engen to meet up with the other Joburg bikers that were attending.
After a meet and greet at the Engen we set of for Clocolaan (kind of between Bloem and Clarence just on the Lesotho Border)
The ride was uneventful except for the last 80k's or so of some of the worst pot holes you can imagine, That and a heavily loaded car and trailer made for some interesting moments!
We met up in Clocolaan with Woema (Coetzee) and were soon joined by the other bikers, a short dirt trip and we were on the farm and checking out the accommodation.
The Game farm and training Venue was Stunning, the Hunters Lodge on the side of a large hill was beautiful and had an amazing view over the farm and Lesotho just across the river.
More meet and greet and a few cold ones around the bonfire saw us end the first day with contented smiles and excited thoughts for what the next few days would bring, Warm beds with lots of blankets and warm water bottles were a great defense against the cold evening.
