So last Monday when I was about 1km from work my gear shift lever decides to break off. Other than a very minor spill on that side some time ago (didn't notice it being bent afterwards) the only abuse the gear lever has suffered was at the "hands" of my size 14 MotoX boots. Fortunately I was in first gear so I could get to the office but there was no way I was about to tackle the 35km hom in first gear so the bike and myself went home with the help of the breakdown service that evening.
A sad sight
I managed to track down a secondhand part and fortunately it seems that the owner has had much the same experience as he'd clearly fitted a much beefier lever so all in all not too bad a result.
Look how thin that metal is.
"New" one - now we're talking!
All this made me think that there's absolutely no way in hell that I'd tackle Kaokoland, or any remote area for that matter, with the standard levers.
