So, has anyone attempted to make a centre stand yourself?

Looks like 3 pieces of tubing welded together at the right angles and cut of at the right lengths. Get a bush that fit the ID of the holes on the Dakar, salvage a lekker spring somewhere and Bob's your uncle?
Is there something that I miss here? Why on earth are people willing to pay R2500+ for a structure this simple?
