Sorry for the hijack... Did anyone pass through the Baviaans and what was Smitskraal like?  Going there this weekend with a local group and not all are that experienced. Also planning on doing Grootrivierpoort to Steytlerville.

Ons het daar gaan braai Saterdag Jan. Natgereen tot daar,terwyl ons braai en terug maar nie 'n druppel water in Smitskraal nie.

Karoo Rider, Smitskraal is a not full at all, there is just a little bit of water to cross on the Patensie side of the crossing, the stones are very loose, but there is no need to stress. Just be aware that mishaps do happen as poor Difflock can attest to.
Ride within the groups abilities and you will enjoy the Baviaanskloof, it is always a stunning ride  :thumleft:

Yes. Currently the road is in very good condition.

I rode through from Doringkloof to just after Bergplaas (just before you drop off again towards the Patensie gate).
Road very good and almost zero water. Smitskraal has a puddle 10 meters long, 30cm deep.

Yes. Currently the road is in very good condition.

Jy verstaan nie die storie nie. Smitskraal het 'n voodoo op hom. Hy's kapabel en val om en versuip daai 2x4 in 30cm water  :lol8:

Karoo Rider, het Sondag oggend 08:00 n mishap gehad by Smitskraal, ek kan aan n klomp dinge dink en sien wat ek verkeerd gedoen het en moes gedoen het maar so leer n mens né.
Voorbeelde
Son het weerkaats op water en kon eers die bodem sien toe ek ry en af kyk deur die water.
Op gopro footage sien toe ek frame vir frame ( rigting Willowmore na Patensie) linker baan hoe slaan ek die middel - mannetjie en stamp my na links, verloor momentum en neuk oor die middel - mannetjie om op die regter baan te landte te kom.
Moes dalk nie alleen gery het of eers die pad gestap het deur die water, dink die Smitskraal spook by my.

Naand Drover, die Tenere het met die 1st probeer slag gevat was bietjie bekommerd.
Vanoggend was ek by Gp toe na Uitenhage vir X-rays, brace en 16:00 terugvoering gekry om Gp môreoggend te gaan sien hoop is nie slegte nuus.
Sulke dinge gebeur wanneer jy die minste verwag.
