Expired disc issue....

I traded my bike in late last year, signed the licence papers etc etc. Last week I get a call to say that my old bike has been sold to a new owner but he can't register is because the disc expired 2 months ago. They are wanting me to go and pay the arrears to get the licence unblocked.
This doesn't sound like it should be my problem......or is it?
